Mini Gastric Bypass
The Mini-Gastric Bypass is an effective and well known surgical weight loss procedure. During the procedure, the upper part of the stomach is separated from the rest of the stomach and then joined to a loop of intestine. The mini-gastric bypass surgery is restrictive and malabsorptive surgery. Which means that post the surgery the size of your stomach is reduced, restricting the amount of food intake. The procedure also reduces absorption of calories, fats & nutrients by bypassing up to 6 feet of small intestine. Gastric bypass and the mini-gastric bypass are both malabsorptive and restrictive procedures. Gastric sleeve and the Lap Balloon are restrictive procedures.
The mini-gastric bypass can be used as a primary weight loss procedure or it can be used in patients who have had previous gastric balloon or sleeve surgery but have been unsuccessful with weight loss.
